Welcome to this small website where I placed some examples on how to use software to optimise the design of a product.
Exercises are thought to be solved on any software. However to solve these examples I use mostly SolidWorks and Catia.

Question 3: Use Ej03-v01.STEP and save all files as Ej03-Surname... Bend 90 degrees the sheet metal part by means of a 10mm rod place 40mm from the bottom right corner and 60mm from the top right corner. Think on consequences of increasing the sheet metal thickness or using a harder but more brittle material.

Question 5: Use Ej05-v01.STL and save all files as Ej05-Surname... Create a surface that fits to the digitilized data and compare results. Consider the scaling of digitilised data during the process.

Question 6: Use Ej06-v01.STEP and save all files as Ej06-Surname... Apply 1MPa on top surface holding the base surface. Use Steel o 1mm and weld base and top using flanges with fastenned connection.

Question 7: Create from zero Ej07-Surname... Draw an ellipse of thickness 1mm, minor axis A 20mm and major axis B with N holes of diameter 10mm. Create a desing table to create N(4,5,6) holes and B(30,32,34)mm.

Question 8: Use Ej08-v01.STEP and save all files as Ej08-Surname... Make an assembly of 3 plates on one side and two plates opposite with one screw. Think of the screw to use according to diameter of hole. Use macro to change colors of all parts.

Question 9: Use Ej09-v01.STEP and save all files as Ej09-Surname... Make motion simulation to rotate the circular part with 1200rpm so that the rectangular part slides from left to right. Make a graph with the torque required as a function of time. play with different materials for cicultar and rectangular part and think on the equations to define such torque.

Question 6: Use Ej06-v01.STEP and save all files as Ej06-Surname... Using shell for 2D properties of thickness 10mm make a simulation of one part in plastic and the other part made of steel. Simulation uses a clamp on on end of metal part and applies and increment of 200ºC to both plastic and steel part. Show the displacement of the tip of this sandwich cantilever beam. Both parts are perefectly bonded together. (SolidWorks users might need to create a SOLID for both parts to see this effect). Think on the consequencies of connenting parts with materials of different thermal expansion.



Question 7: Use Ej03-v01.STEP and save all files as Ej07-Surname... Make a design table to create on a face “NAG” holes(5,6,7) holes diameter 5mm with a trimmed triangle of angle “ANG” 120º,80º y 50º.



Question 8: Use Ej03-v01.STEP and save all files as Ej08-Surname... Make a through hole for a M10 on each face. Make an assembly of 3x3 with M10 screws connecting each part.
